The Art of Concentration Session 2 Rerun: Lesson 10

Hello Everyone

So we arrive at our final meditation of our second session, after what I feel has been a very deep and detailed journey into the world of concentration. As I have already mentioned last week, I have shared as much as I think is necessary for now as the material you have had will carry you far and take time to master.

In the third term later this year we will also look at how to develop our concentration using the “Brahma Viharas”. These are the meditations on Love, Compassion, Appreciative Joy and Equanimity. We will also run a programme exploring the 4 elements and elemental Kasinas of Earth, Water, Fire and Air as well as some of the other relative meditations that the Buddha taught.

But beyond this point further development of concentration will need to go alongside your development of liberating insight (vipassana) meditation. We will discuss together with the importance of our commitment to sila (virtuous conduct) during term 3.

The final meditation I have shared this week is the skeleton meditation which I recommend you use as the basis for your practice over the summer.

I have also shared a track we did a while back as a little bit of encouragement to enter into the spirit of the yogi!

Happy meditating

with much metta

End of Term Donation (Dana)

We have now come to the end of our second module. We will take a break for summer so that you can review these lessons and integrate them before we move onto term 3. We will email you information about term 3 towards the end of August.

As you know I decided to offer this course on a donation basis so that it was available to everyone. The suggested donation for each term is £150 which would make the cost of each term including the registration fee £200. ie. £600 for the whole year if you were to follow all three terms.

Of course, the donation is discretionary and please give what you feel able to and what you feel is appropriately in-line with the value you personally put on that which you have received.

Your donations are very much appreciated, especially at this time as they will make a significant contribution to our ongoing efforts to establish our residential retreat/ community which is now in its early stages. Your donations make it possible for us to continue to develop and improve our offerings and also support our amazing team who tirelessly work in the background to make it all possible.
