Really enjoyable questions and answers in this thread, thanks to all. It was interesting to learn that service is considered to be generosity. I am of service in a fellowship where we try to help each a few times a week, and it has been extraordinarily beneficial – life changing in fact. It seems to me that our culture is enthralled with service to oneself – from education to the media, it seems we are encouraged to believe that we can and perhaps should have it all. I bought that hook line and sinker and it only brought me pain. I am so grateful to have learned that it is generosity and kindness that is the secret, albeit belatedly. This discourse has made me realize I still have much that I don’t need that could benefit others, and there is more effort that needs to be made helping others – thank you.
